Letter #2 – Teaching Kids Charity: A Habit That Builds True Wealth
Dear children,
This lesson is about something close to our hearts — and it holds the power to change the world around you, and the world within you.
It’s about giving to charity.
Not just giving when it’s easy or when someone’s watching, but giving freely, regularly, and with an open heart.
You might think,
“If I give away my money or time, won’t I have less?”
Of course not! Here’s one of life’s greatest little secrets:
“Wealth does not diminish by giving charity”
aHadith
That’s right, children! A 1500 year old quote states that AND it’s now been proven in formal studies. Here a quick video on it: here you go.
But please remember: when you give, you NEVER expect anything in return. The best kind of giving is done quietly — without a crowd or applause and showing off. After all, you’re giving to help others — not to be seen helping others. That would defeat the purpose.
Instead, give quietly and give sincerely.
Because when you do, you gain something even more powerful: peace, strength, connection, and surprising blessings that find their way back to you.
So why should you give?
- Someone out there has less than you.
- You can help others.
- It feels good to help.
Psychologists call it the “helper’s high.”
When you give to someone in need, your brain lights up in the same way it does when you get a hug or hear your favourite song. You feel proud, connected, and full of purpose.
That feeling builds self-worth.
It reminds you that you can make a difference — that you’re someone who brings good into the world.
Oh – and don’t wait until you’re rich to give to charity.
Giving isn’t just for millionaires. It’s for anyone and everyone, so there is no excuse.
Even one coin, a kind word, or a few minutes of your time can mean everything to someone who’s struggling.
If you ever find yourself saying,
“I’ll give when I have more,”
then nice try… but no!
Because the truth is simple:
If you don’t give when you have a little, you probably won’t give when you have a lot.
Don’t you love it when your mum and dad are right?
Generosity is a habit, not a number.
Start small — and start now.
And when you give — don’t expect to be praised.
Don’t wait for someone to say “wow,” or give you a high-five.
Don’t give just to feel proud.
Give because it’s the right thing to do.
Oh — and a quick tip: if you show off wealth, you’ll attract people who want something from you. But I’ll explain more about that in another letter on friendships.
Here’s a story I want to share with you.
Do you remember my uncle from Mayfair? Well, you never met his daughter (my cousin), but I’ll never forget this moment. I was a teenager, and she was sitting next to us in the sitting room. Her socks had a hole in them, and I asked her why she didn’t just buy new ones. She told me she couldn’t afford it.
I was confused — after all, they lived in Mayfair and are incredibly rich!
Later, I asked my dad (your grandad), and he told me she was scared to spend money. She was afraid of not having enough and that it would run out. I didn’t really understand it then as they own so many properties, but that moment stuck with me.
And now I do understand:
When you’re too attached to money, you become afraid of losing it.
And that fear is no good.
So be wise with money — but never let it rule you.
Let money live in your hands, not your heart.
Here’s what I want you to remember:
💼 Work hard.
📚 Learn, earn, and grow.
🚀 Be ambitious.
But also:
💖 Give often. Give quietly. Give sincerely.
You’re not here just to gather worldly things.
You’re here to give, to lift others, and to make the world a little better than you found it.
And you don’t need to wait until you have more.
Even when you have little — there’s always something to give.
The size of your gift doesn’t matter.
What matters is the size of the heart that gives it.
As you grow older, this lesson will become even clearer.
I hope we’ve reiterated this lesson in a way that really sticks with you all. 🙂
So now that you know what to do — go apply it.
You’ll learn faster, grow stronger, and feel prouder every time you give.
And if you’d like help getting started — we’ve made something special for you.
